Mini Marbled Plant Pots

Mini Marbled Plant Pots

We love to add a bit of colour to everything here at Hello Marilu and we have fallen in love with the marbling craze this summer.  It's so much fun watching the marbled inks mix together to create organic shapes and patterns.  The great thing about marbling is that every pattern will be unique so you can create a variety of exciting and original pieces.

Most people will start with marbling papers - which is great, but did you know that you can marble almost anything with a smooth surface, such as glass, ceramics, even candles!

We've decided to brighten up these simple white plant pots with some colourful marbling detail.

You will need:

  • Plain white, or light coloured mini plant pots
  • Marbling inks - try Marabu Easy Marble available at most art shops
  • A bowl of water large enough to dip your pot into
  • Masking tape
  • Stirring stick

You can either marble the whole pot, or you can use your masking tape to create some interesting shapes by masking off particular areas such as around the rim of the pot.

Marble inks can be a little messy, so make sure you protect your work surface and clothes.  Fill your bowl with water deep enough to dip your pot into, then put a few drops of at least 2 marble inks into the water.  Use your mixing stick to carefully blend the colours together until you have your desired marbled effect.

Take your pot and dip it slowly into the bowl of marbled inks, making sure you have fully submerged the masked off area.  Pull it out of the bowl quickly and set aside to dry.

Once fully dried you can peel off the masking tape and display your new bright and colourful mini cactus collection.
